Brand History: Introduced to the market in 1991, PetSafe® Retail Fences are the original do-it-yourself dog fence.
Product Cost and Availability: PetSafe® In-Ground Fences are available online and at local big box retailers. The cost to protect one pet ranges from about $150 for the Standard In-Ground Fence to around $275 for the Deluxe Comfort Fit Fence.
Warranty: PetSafe® In-Ground fence products include a limited lifetime product warranty. Warranty returns are handled through the mail.
Batteries: All PetSafe® retail dog fences require you to purchase custom batteries every 3 - 6 months. Battery cost ranges from $12 - $25 per year.
Receiver Info: The PetSafe® Ultralight Receiver includes only one correction level. The PetSafe® Deluxe Ultralight Receiver includes four user-adjustable correction levels and one tone-only level. Both PetSafe® Ultralight Receivers (Standard and Deluxe) weigh approximately 54 grams. The PetSafe® Stubborn Dog receiver weighs approximately 118 grams.
Transmitter Info: PetSafe® retail transmitters protect up to 20 acres. They do not include integrated lightning protection, so you should purchase a separate lightning protection unit to ensure the safety of your home's electrical system.
Wire: PetSafe® retail fences include 20-gauge stranded wire as a part of the standard package. This wire breaks very easily and is not rated for burial. Some online retailers do offer upgraded wire, either for free or as an add-on. If your PetSafe® system does not include upgraded wire, you should purchase it separately from a local wire specialty store.
Installation and Training Support: PetSafe® has a telephone support line that you can call with installation and training questions. PetSafe® products also include a training DVD.
