Product Review: Perimeter Wire-Free (WiFi) Fence
There are two wireless fence products currently available: the Perimeter Wireless (WiFi) Fence and the PetSafe Wireless Instant Fence. If you read my reviews of both wireless fences, you'll notice that I give them the same four-star rating. I wish I could recommend one product more highly than the other, but the problem is that they each have their own distinct benefits, along with some limitations. Which product you ultimately choose will depend on your specific needs.
The Good
The Perimeter Wire-Free (WiFi) dog fence is the only wireless fence that uses WiFi technology. According to the manufacturer, that's why this wireless fence provides a much larger signal field (2 acres) than the PetSafe Wireless Instant Fence (1/2 acre). When I heard that this wireless fence product runs on a WiFi signal, my first concern was that it would interfere with the wireless router that manages my home computer network; but, my concern was allayed by the fact that the Perimeter WiFi fence uses an 802.15 signal instead of the 802.11 signal most routers use. So, if you're thinking about buying a wireless fence and you have a very large yard, this may be the product for you.
The Perimeter Wire-Free fence includes a receiver with eight different correction levels, which makes it a great fit to use with low-stress fence training techniques.
The Bad
The biggest downside to this wireless fence is that you can only use it to contain a maximum of two pets. So, if you have (or plan to get) three or more pets you should consider a PetSafe Wireless Instant Fence instead, since it allows you to contain an unlimited number of pets with one transmitter. To me, this is a pretty important feature to consider, since (if you're like me) you never know when you might suddenly and unexpectedly add a new dog to the family.
Perimeter Technologies does specify that its product will not work if you have:
- Dense trees on your property
- Metal siding or roofing on your home
- Metal structures within the area you wish to contain
Be aware that wireless fences are a good solution for only a small percentage of folks. If you aren't certain that a wireless fence is the right choice for you, read the following article: Will a wireless fence work for me?
Product Features
As with other wireless fences, this system is easily portable if you have more than one property or plan to use it when traveling in your RV.
The Perimeter WiFi fence does not require any wire — just a reliable power source. This makes it an easy and efficient dog fence option if you don't mind its limited configuration options.
Support
The Perimeter Wire-Free fence includes an Instruction/Basic Training Manual. It also has a 30-day money-back guarantee and a limited lifetime warranty.
