Pet Stop Product Review

Pros: Made in the USA

Cons: Requires proprietary batteries; not available in every market

As far as pro dog fences go, Pet Stop is a relatively high-quality and feature-rich product. Unlike Invisible Fence, Pet Stop products are made in the USA, which is a big selling feature for a lot of folks. Pet Stop's biggest downside is that the receiver requires proprietary batteries that you must buy from your local Pet Stop installer.

Pet Stop is a pro line of dog fences that is manufactured by Perimeter Technologies, which means that the only way to purchase this product is to contact the Pet Stop installer who serves your local area. Prices vary with each local installer, but in my experience you can expact to pay between $1000 and $1800 for a fully installed system.

Product Features

Pet Stop receivers have a broad range of correction settings that are user adjustable — that means you can change the receiver level yourself without a service call from your installer. Unfortunately, though, the interface for changing the levels is unnecessarily complex and (in my opinion) frustrating.

Interestingly, Pet Stop receivers are compatible with other dog fence brands, including Invisible Fence and PetSafe. That means you can use a Pet Stop receiver with an Invisible Fence transmitter and vice versa. Remember, though, that you cannot access every feature of the receiver when it is in this mode.

Unfortunately, Pet Stop receivers do require proprietary batteries that cost around $20 - $35 per pet each year. You'll need to change the battery approximately once every 3 - 6 months, depending on how often your pet interacts with its fence.

The Pet Stop transmitter powers up to 100 acres and includes integrated lightning protection, so you don't need to purchase a separate lightning protection device. The type of wire included with a Pet Stop fence varies with each installer, but the minimum wire quality you should expect is 18-gauge solid core wire (although 14-gauge wire is much more durable).

Support

All Pet Stop products include professional installation and training support. The level of training support varies with each installer — some installers include only the initial training sessions and charge for additional support, while others offer unlimited training support as a standard part of the installation package. Make sure you understand exactly how much free training support you will receive when you purchase your Pet Stop fence. Ideally, you'll receive at least 6 months of free, onsite support.

Pet Stop products include a full lifetime product warranty. Pet Stop touts its warranty as the strongest in the dog fence industry, and guarantees that if you find a more technologically advanced dog fence system they will purchase it for you. Warranty returns are generally handled through your Pet Stop installer.

Cost

Pet Stop dog fences are available exclusively through regional Pet Stop installers. Cost usually ranges from $850 - $1500, depending on the number of pets and the size of the area you wish to protect.
