How to install your invisible dog fence transmitter
Every brand of dog fence includes a proprietary transmitter with unique installation instructions. While the instructions below provide general guidance on installing a dog fence transmitter, you should consult the instructions included with your dog fence for specific directions.
Tools You'll Need:
- Screws with matching anchors
- Ruler
- Level
- Phillips head screwdriver or power drill
1) Choose a good location for your transmitter. See my article on planning your installation for more guidance.
2) Mount your transmitter to the wall. Measure the distance between the screw holes on the back of your transmitter. Now, use the level and a ruler to mark your wall where your screws will go. If you do not screw the transmitter directly into a wall stud, install screw anchors before you attach the transmitter to your wall.
3) Install separate lightning protection, if necessary. Some dog fences come with integrated lightning protection, while others require a separate lightning protection device
. If your dog fence does not include some form of lightning protection, you should purchase a separate unit to protect both the transmitter and your home's electrical system and install it now.
4) Connect the transmitter to your boundary wire. Your transmitter has a place to attach both ends of your boundary loop. If you hear a loud beeping noise when you make the connection, that's your wire break alarm — you've got a break somewhere in your boundary wire.
